MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Interim Director of the Goyder Institute for Water Research, establishing the Institute and coordinating applications for the first tranche of funding. The Goyder Institute is a partnership between the State Government of SA, CSIRO, University of Adelaide, University of SA and Flinders University. It has $50M of core funding to deliver research that supports water policy development in SA.
  • Key manager of the start up phase of the Environment Institute at the University of Adelaide. This Institute brings together six high performance research centres into one Institute with research interests in climate change, water, biodiversity, landscape science, energy.
  • Special Advisor to the Chief Scientist in South Australia in the development in two new, major proposals for funding research in South Australia: Renewable Energy & Adaptation Laboratory (now Renewables SA) and Goyder Water Research Institute.
  • Coordinator of the Water Research Cluster at the University of Adelaide which increased collaboration with other researchers and NRM Boards in undertaking research into water resource management, and resulted in $5.8 M for collaborative research activities.
  • Co-author of the business plan for the Centre for Natural Resource Management which attracted $11,780,000 in funding from the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality.
  • Through leading the initial Technical Working Group of the Centre for Natural Resource Management, identifying with regional NRM groups in SA their role to stimulate, encourage and co-invest in research that is relevant to underpinning their investment strategies.
  • Coordinate the Living Laboratories Program of ICE WaRM,  which has brought together policy developers and researchers to discuss important water management issues, and has lead to new collaborations and ventures. This Program was a finalist in the category of “Collaboration” in the SA Science Awards 2009
